Pray and Protest for the Climate this Lent
40 Days
Christian Climate Action is launching 40 Days of Action on Ash Wednesday. They invite people of all faiths and none to join them in one of the following three ways:
- On 26th of February, Ash Wednesday, there was a vigil outside Westminster Cathedral at 12 noon and then Westminster Abbey at 2pm.
- Throughout the 40 days and nights of Lent, Christian Climate Action and other Faith Groups are holding a meditation vigil outside the Houses of Parliament. They invite people to sign up for the rota here: https://www.24-7prayer.com/signup/68b291
- They also suggest that people use this time of Lent to take some action in their own lives that fit the urgency of the climate crisis. This could be anything, from processing climate grief with their local communities, through reducing their carbon footprint or that of their local Church, to taking up civil disobedience.
Pray for the Climate
If you can’t get to London and prayer is your thing, Tearfund, Christian Aid, CAFOD and others have set up Pray for the Climate, with a WhatsApp feed and a great how-to guide on setting up a prayer room in your church, to pray for the climate throughout 2020.
Pray and Fast for the Climate
And don’t forget Pray and Fast for the Climate, which was set up in 2015 and sends monthly prayer points into your email in-box reminding us all to pray, and perhaps fast, on the 1st of every month.
