Cats!
You might have seen today’s news item about Australia’s war on feral cats (link copied below): the Australian government intends to cull millions of cats by 2020 to protect local fauna. I understand the predicament and this is all very sad but unfortunately it’s not only feral cats that endanger wildlife, but most cats… I have a (house) cat that only goes in the garden with me and so it doesn’t hunt. But I am worried about the effect of the ‘free to roam’ neighbourhood cats on the bird population. It has been really silent in the morning. How do you raise awareness about collars for cats or any other methods that can prevent them from hunting birds please? I have removed bird feeders after seeing my neighbour’s cat waiting patiently in front of the tree…
