CEL joins Action at Drax AGM, London April 2013
On April 24th, six members of CEL joined members of BiofuelWatch, The Campaign against Climate Change, the Green Party, Fuel Poverty action and others to witness to the damaging effects of the UKs policy on Biofuels at the DRAX AGM in London.
You shall season all your grain offerings with salt (Lev 2:13).
DRAX has received over £100 million from the Governments Green Bank to convert from Coal to Coal and Biomass. Burning wood has been shown to produce more green house gases than burning coal for the same energy produced. In addition, it implicates the UK in land grabbing, food speculation and global hunger. What is more, since the UK inappropriately classifies Biomass as renewable, it is subsidized, so the UK public pays twice to allow this harmful practice to continue at great expense to those driven off their land in the developing world but with great profits going to the likes of DRAX.
Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts (James 5:4).
An estimated 50 people took part in total and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Many of Bank’s passers-by took information and I personally spoke to one man who seemed willing to reconsider his company’s investing in Biofuels as he had previously only heard positive things about it. Please pray for this ongoing campaign and the excellent work our friends our doing for the sake of Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation.
