CEL supports No Tar Sands demo

tar sand protest 1 - Copy (600x800)Members of CEL joined the Stop Harper demonstration on Parliament Square today organised by No-Tar-Sands.

Canada’s Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, addressed our Parliament today, an honour usually reserved for the most highly-respected foreign dignitaries such as Aung San Suu Kyi and Nelson Mandela.  Harper is promoting the tar sands industry which, if allowed to keep expanding, is predicted to tip us over the edge into runaway climate change.  He is also trying to sell the oil from tar sands to Europe and muzzling climate scientists that are trying to speak out against his disastrous plans.

Ruth Jarman, of CEL, said, “I joined this demo because I feel angry that Harper has been given this honour of addressing Parliament when he is such a blatant climate criminal.  Jesus may forgive him, but will his children?”
