GC Gathering, June 9-11 2017, Programme

Why not come and join us this year. We will be joined by Paul Maiteny, an ecologist, anthropologist and transpersonal counsellor, who will accompany us on an exploratory inquiry into how attention to living everyday ecologically might allow us to participate in the emergence of a planetary spiritual Life.Sometimes Paul describes this as ‘Teilhardian’ work. But, fear not! This weekend will not involve any intellectual study of Teilhard’s work. He was passionate and poetic. But we will not be studying that either. If anything, the usual stereotypes about Teilhard will be blown away!

This will be an embodied weekend looking at how we actually live and want to live, and drawing also on Pope Francis’ encyclical, “On Concern for Our Common Home”. We will focus on how we might live along the lines of what he said, so putting his work into practice. As he said, “If I have had a mission to fulfil, it will only be possible to judge whether I have accomplished it by the extent to which others go beyond me…” He wanted people to actually live as if “(t)he consciousness of each of us is evolution looking at itself and reflecting upon itself”.

This will be an exploration of our everyday living as expression of embodied contemporary discipleship.

Guiding questions might include:

  • What do we need to live, and why?
  • What keeps us in our current ways of living and what does it do to us?
  • How might we live as Members? Everyday participation in planetary Life? What helps and hinders us?
