Major Islamic Climate Change Declaration
in Istanbul, Turkey, on 18 August 2015 an unprecedented Islamic Climate Change Declaration was released, presenting the moral case, based on Islamic teachings, for Muslims and all people to take urgent climate action. The Declaration calls for a rapid phase-out of fossil fuels, a switch to 100% renewable energy, and increased support for vulnerable communities already suffering from climate impacts.

The Declaration was drafted by a large, diverse team of international Islamic scholars from around the world and has already been endorsed by more than 60 Muslim leaders and organizations including the Grand Muftis of Uganda and Lebanon. The Vatican’s Pontifical Council on Justice and Peace has issued a message of solidarity in response to the Declaration.
