Prayer for COP14 of the Convention of Biodiversity in Sharm El-Sheikh
The Convention for Biodiversity meets alternate years. We are in year 8 of the 10 years of the decade of biodiversity. In 2o1o we – GC (then CEL) wrote prayers for the 2010 convention.
During the period 13 – 29 Nov 2018, the fourteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity is meeting: – COP14 for Biodiversity – at Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt,
See a) the Official site;
b) Excellent article in the Guardian – “Stop biodiversity loss or we could face our own extinction,” warns UN
Pray for representatives of 195 states at the conferences and for the people on the ground (and on the seas) throughout the world, implementing the laws and looking after the nature reserves.
A quarter of the world’s mammals and one fifth of the world’s plants are under threat of extinction
The populations of wild vertebrates (mammals, amphibians etc) have decreased by 60 percent in the last 50 years and are still decreasing.
Lord we thank you for this beautiful world with its amazing variety of animals and plants. Be with those meeting at the International Biodiversity Conference in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, as they seek to find ways of protecting your world: Ways of preventing the destruction of habitats and soil, and of saving species from extinction. Please help us to understand your world more – to appreciate the beauty of nature. Encourage us to care for wildlife conservation areas in our churchyards, gardens, parks, farms, “waste spaces” and reserves and to help in local nature surveys.
Help us to support wildlife conservation with our money, our words and our actions.
May we never forget that we are stewards of your creation and that we hold it in trust for future generations.
Amen
