Press Release: Christian charity looks for hope and wisdom at their Annual Members’ Meeting
Green Christian are excited to announce that the speaker at their Annual Members’ Meeting will be the Rt Rev Dr David Atkinson, author of a powerful new book, Hope Rediscovered – Biblical Wisdom for an Anxious World. The meeting will be held in Central London on Saturday 17 November from 1pm, and non-members are very welcome.
Bishop Atkinson, a retired Bishop of Thetford and now Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Southwark, will talk on the themes of his book: How to re-orient ourselves to God in our troubled times of social inequality and environmental crises, using true Biblical wisdom.
There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion at the meeting, which takes place in central London. Attendees will seek to explore ways to take the speaker’s inspiring and practical message into their lives.
Barbara Echlin of Green Christian said, “We hope to explore with Bishop Atkinson how to hold on to hope in the light of what may be an impending ecological catastrophe. How can we share the ideal of restraint among fellow Christians when the world around us is continually promoting consumerism, with an assumption of limitless economic growth?”
Bishop Atkinson, who had a background in science before being ordained, writes with depth about practical wisdom. He has taught theology in Oxford, lectured in the USA and India and has written books on Christian Ethics.
The meeting on 17 November at St Andrews Church Hall, Short Street, London, SE1 8LJ, will begin with a bring-and-share lunch at 1pm followed by the members’ meeting, and Bishop Atkinson’s talk will start at 2:45. Anyone wishing to attend should sign up at https://gcamm2018.eventbrite.co.uk
