Worcester New Green Christian Group
The pandemic and the lockdown were not what we were expecting but the other risks that humanity faces have not gone away. In particular there is the climate emergency and our need to face this challenge as Christians who acknowledge our responsibility before God our creator to care for His world and to protect the whole of His creation for the sake of our shared future.
The lockdown creates a space to do a new thing. We are establishing a Worcester Green Christian Group open to all followers of Jesus of any tradition. We would also like to welcome contributions from friends of other or no particular faith who are interested in human flourishing and building sustainable communities. The group would share in prayer, plan events and engage in discussion. We invite you to join us and to share this news with your networks and friends.
We have already established a Facebook page. Do visit it and “like us”. We also have two speaker meetings (by Zoom) pencilled in for May 18th 2020 and May 28th.
One May 18th, Martin Davis, Convenor of Green Christian in Cheltenham, will be talking about the significance of Pope Francis’s encyclical letter Laudato Si’ as we mark 5 years since that groundbreaking document’s publication. The links between what Francis sets out as his vision for a just and sustainable stewardship of God’s creation and our civilisation’s encroachment on the natural environment cannot be ignored in this time of global pandemic.
During our next talk on May 28th, Margot and Martin Hodson, who some of you may know, will be talking about the links between the current pandemic and climate emergency from the Christian perspective.
You are very welcome to book a place at both events. We would be also grateful for sharing information about them within your faith communities and networks, e.g. having them in your newsletters would be of much help.
What we hope is that this group could supply the energy and creativity to enable new things to happen and we believe that your involvement could make a real contribution to its success.
Peace and all Good Tom Piotrowski and Peter Grimwood Co-convenors of Green Christian in Worcester
