  • “In God’s creation, there is no throwaway planet and there are no throwaway people…”
  • Green Christian urges prayer & action as final day of UN Plastics treaty fails to deliver for the poorest

STATEMENT – for immediate release

Jack Wakefield, Trustee at Green Christian, said:
“We urge the Prime Minister, and Environment Secretary: now is the moment to be bold. In God’s creation, there is no throwaway planet and there are no throwaway people. Anything less than binding targets to cut plastic production and a just transition for the poorest, will be a failure to protect the most vulnerable from the scourge of plastic pollution.

“Today marks the end of the UN Plastics Treaty negotiations, but the promised deal could fail without urgent action. A few oil-producing countries and plastics producers have continually blocked progress and withheld justice for the world’s poorest people. In the most recent draft, all targets to reduce plastic production have disappeared, and once again, the world’s poorest and most vulnerable communities are being left to carry the heaviest burden.”

How cynical of big business to block something which is for people and planetary health. It makes me sad that some will treat other humans so badly. I pray God will reach the hearts of all people and bring about real change.
