The Climate and Nature Bill

The Climate and Nature Bill is the only proposed legislation that tackles the climate and nature crises together based on both the latest science and global justice.

That’s why Green Christian are continuing to support it and aim to give you and your churches the resources you need to support it too.

Continue to increase support for the Bill

Now is the time to help increase support for the Bill. On the Zero Hour website, you can sign up:

  • as an individual
  • as an organisation (e.g. your church*)
  • as a faith leader*

*Clearly Zero Hour is looking to us to help get signatures to this letter – let us not disappoint! The protection of God’s world is all of our jobs, but wouldn’t it be wonderful if our churches showed the lead and the names of churches and church leaders filled the constituency pages up and down the country! So please:

  • Email your MP
  • Share it with all your friends
  • Arrange to speak to your church leader, asking them to
    • have an item in the pew sheet encouraging the church family to sign – template here
    • sign as a faith leader
    • for the church to sign as an organisation

Don’t worry if this seems confusing – once you’re inside the website it is really clear and fun to do. Here is the button:

Christine Wetherell:

If you look at the figures (e.g. Copernicus); almost all the world is now hotter or much hotter than it was in 2016. This is already causing huge storms, flooding, melting of glaciers and ice-caps (now irreversible), which will cause global fooding. We can slow all this down to give us time to adapt, bring in new technology; stop using oil-based products and energy usage, revolutionise house-building standards etc. If we invest, we will make money - not lose it. Why don't politicians understand how business works? Young people could be employed in an inventive and exciting way, reducing the social problems we have. Think laterally. Imagine. Get out of your political rut and into the wider world. If I could start a business from nothing (selling herbs to garden centres); before the internet, with two very young children; having to learn about the product, how to produce it, how to find pots, compost, print my own labels (very early computer - but had to input everything) and make it a success (I had to 'hard sell' the product by going around garden centres and ask to see 'the boss' - terrifying!), but I doubled my turnover every year, employing people year-round. Ill-health eventually caused me to close the business - but I knew i had achieved something new as the big horticultural businesses at that time weren't producing herbs. I did it in a manner (even then) that was as 'green' as possible, and still 40 years later, reuse the pots I had left over! Now I just give away spare plants, sell them for charity or give them to charities, from the garden, or ones I have produced from seeds and cuttings (because it is sooo satisfying!). Organically. My garden is heaving with weird spiders and other insects just because we garden using our food and garden waste and 'no-dig'. And what do you do politicians? Most of you aren't even aware. Not aware of how scared young people and many adults are of the future. (on average +80% overall). So, get real, get adventurous, talk to young people, those in environmental groups (small and national) and LISTEN!
