The Meaning of Pilgrimage – Green Christian Workshop

Wednesday 4 February 2026 7pm

Phil Craine will explore with us about the meaning of pilgrimage and its place in our world today.

Phil lives in his native Isle of Man where he is active in his local Methodist church, and enjoys exploring the hills and coast. He loves walking to recharge his batteries, and is particularly fond of the South West Coastal Footpath and the English Lakes. He’d like to see a fairer division of the world’s resources and has worked with Christian Aid. Back in the 80s he spent a couple of years working in Pakistan with Church Mission Society, for whom he later co-led groups of young people to Russia and Pakistan., and he has been an Ecumenical Accompanier in Palestine.

Phil leads pilgrimages and guided walks on the Isle of Man, taking in ancient including the Manx Keeills (early chapels), carved crosses and holy wells, and guiding participants in a spirit of pilgrimage, offering time for reflection, poetry, prayer and silence.

He also leads pilgrimages further afield, always sharing a sense of awe and wonder for creation, and encouraging walkers to connect with themselves, one another, creation and the Creator in a deeper way.
