Mission in a warmed world

Help us build a toolkit for churches on climate resilience
At our conference in Peterborough on 15 November 2025 Green Christian members produced a Call to Mission. Could you help us develop it into a toolkit enabling churches to renew their mission for this time of climate destabilisation? If you attended the conference, or if you’re just interested in the challenges of climate adaptation, join us and help get a toolkit published. Complete this expression of interest form today, and we’ll get in touch to arrange a meeting.
A quick reminder
During the afternoon over 70 people who attended the conference considered the question, “Climate breakdown is happening. How can churches help their communities prepare for what’s coming?” In discussion groups we crafted the following Call to Action, which we have renamed Call to Mission:
- Give truthful, creation-led learning, leadership and worship – learning from others and aspiring to be prophetic in the present crisis
- Open wide our churches – creating interconnected hubs which signpost activities, resources and ways of developing practical and spiritual resilience.
- Become catalysts, hosts and convenors – collaborating with MPs, councillors, agencies and people of all faith backgrounds for prayer, learning and resilience planning.
- Be a good friend and neighbour – exploring ecospirituality with hospitality, hope and care, and offering a living oasis to support everyone through good times and bad.

Equipping mission in the Anthropocene
The Call to Mission is a stimulus for our churches to rethink their mission as we enter a new and more dangerous global climate regime. However they also need to be equipped to rise to the coming challenges – perhaps through an action plan or toolkit. And for that we need volunteers. Would you be interested in joining three meetings on Zoom during 2026 to help get something published? Please get in touch.
One possible starting point for a toolkit will be in the 2026 Storm of Hope brochure, which Green Christian members will be receiving this month. It includes a page of self-assessment questions for churches which might be useful to include.
Engage churches in your area
Using the video recording of Rupert Read’s keynote address from our annual conference, our Chair George Dow recently lead a zoom presentation and discussion on ‘‘How churches can help their communities prepare for what’s coming?” to Creation Care Champions, representing churches across the Anglican Diocese of Truro in Cornwall.
Do use his text to do something similar in your area.
