The Sophia Course

Eco-Spirituality and Eco-Discipleship in Worcester Cathedral from April 2026

Last year Worcester Cathedral started The Sophia Course (or Wisdom Course) as a way to help eco-focused Christians to connect their faith with their concern for our planet. The purpose was to help people to understand and engage with the eco-spiritual core of the gospel, thus helping to make eco-disciples. Of course, the very terms “eco-spirituality” and “eco-discipleship” are mis-nomers, only necessary because so much of faith today has forgotten this key aspect. Christian faith needs to rediscover these elements, that they are not so much eco-specialisms of Christianity, but sit at its very core. Eco is not a specialist sub-division of being Christian, but without it, you are missing out on something very crucial and necessary.

The Sophia Course is running again in 2026, monthly through April to October, with one Learning Day per month. It is a seven-month spiritual formation programme with a focus on creation-attuned spirituality, designed to engage body, soul, and spirit, and blending theological and practical teaching with hands-on activities, social time, and contemplative prayer. It is for anyone seeking to explore and grow in Christian discipleship in a world facing unprecedented environmental challenges.

Abi took the course last year and said:

As a Green Christian who has completed this course, I really recommend it to anyone who can commit to it, the course content is absolutely fantastic, and the discussions and friendships it leads to are a real blessing.
