Stop Rosebank

⛔🛢 STOP ROSEBANK 🛢⛔ – DECISION IN 2-8 WEEKS

Send a Postcard to your MP this week

This new, urgent and simple campaign sends a postcard – personalised for your MP – you just need to add a few details on website below.

It is far too easy for an MP or MSP to delete an email, but it is much harder to ignore a mountain of physical mail. Therefore “Stop Rosebank” will deliver one to their postbox for you.

Take 2 minutes to send a physical postcard directly to your MP or MSP’s office with this new tool. A tangible message arriving on their desk is a powerful way to remind them that this isn’t just about abstract policies but real concerns affecting their voters. It helps shift the debate.

NB if your MP has already signed the MP pledge, the campaign tool will know this and will send a “thank you and please do more” post card.

Why Stop Rosebank?

The UK government is facing the climate test of their term in office. Equinor has reapplied to develop Rosebank: the biggest undeveloped oil field in the UK, and the government is now looking at the responses to the consultation. There is still time to help our government make the right decision on whether to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

Show up to Westminster: Tuesday 24th March from 1 – 4pm

Many people don’t know that you can just show up at Parliament and request a meeting on the spot. Even if they’re busy, they are officially notified that a constituent came to find them to talk about Rosebank – and they will be expected to respond.

We’re reclaiming “lobbying” from Big Oil. We’re going to use our fundamental right to meet our MPs face-to-face and get them on side to sign the Stop Rosebank Pledge.

Uplift is happy to cover travel costs for people coming from outside of London. Please email action@stopcambo.org.uk to arrange this.

A clever tax dodge?

Shell and Equinor are forming a new joint venture, Adura, which will be the new owner of the Rosebank oil field.

Adura looks to be exploiting a loophole that allows Shell to write off its profits against Equinor’s tax losses. If they succeed, investigators from Global Witness have found they will effectively dodge at least £1.3 billion in UK taxes.

The oil industry is seeking to privatise its profits while socialising its tax burden. Blocking this tax grab is a crucial second front in the fight to Stop Rosebank for good.

Green Christian is proud to have co-signed this open letter from civil society to the Prime Minister, calling on him to stop Rosebank, saying,

Prime Minister, this is your government’s opportunity to show the UK – and the world – that it will put people and the planet before polluters’ profits. We call on your Labour government to do the right thing and reject Rosebank.

Rosebank is a climate disaster that we can still stop. Together, we already overturned the last government’s approval in the courts and helped to bring in new government rules that make it harder to push it through.

Now it’s up to this government to make the right call.
