Church Land For Nature? – Green Christian/CCA Workshop

Most UK churches own land. Some, just the churchyard surrounding their building, and for some denominations, thousands of acres. There are two important campaigns that are trying to help the church use their land for the good of nature and climate: Wildcard’s Rewild the Church and Operation Noah’s Land Use campaign.
This workshop informs you about the Wildcard campaign:
What would Jesus do if he owned 108,000 acres of land? Farm it for profit or use it to restore forests, wetlands and meadows to help save our vanishing wildlife? The Church of England’s largest investment body, the Church Commissioners, own this much land and the Wild Card campaign is calling on them to rewild 30% of it by 2030.
Rewild the Church is a nationwide movement is asking the Church Commissioners, the Church of England’s largest investment body, to be a global leader in land stewardship and restoring biodiversity by rewilding 30% of their vast landholdings by 2030. Wild Card, the organisation coordinating the campaign, has created a Community Action Pack to offer meaningful ways for you to get involved as part of the Rewild the Church movement. It’s full of ideas and resources for taking action within your local church and community, spreading the word, learning more about rewilding, and connecting with nature while you’re at it! Operation Noah’s Land Use campaign
Operation Noah also have a campaign calling on all UK churches to tend and care for the land that they own. They have a Land Use Vision with 7 climate and nature targets for churches to work towards, whether they own thousands of acres or just their own churchyard.
