COP31
Yes, yet another COP, this time in Antalya, Türkiye. The annual moment where the Goliathan fossil fuel and petrostate lobby meet with national governments to talk about the climate. Amongst the delegates there will be those who genuinely want to prevent climate breakdown. There will also be those, with considerably more power and finance behind them, whose aim will be to prevent any limiting of fossil fuel extraction – the one thing that must happen to safeguard the future.
Without being naïve about the chances of success, we can still use this moment to pray and act for creation.
1. Help pack the Energy Secretary’s suitcase
CAFOD have a fabulously fun action for COP this year.
The UK Energy Secretary, Miatta Fahnbulleh, will be heading to the UN climate talks, COP31, in Türkiye.
Before the conference begins on Monday 9 November, we can all suggest what the Secretary of State should bring with her to help her take urgent action on the climate crisis.
2. Pray
We will be meeting on Zoom for 10 minutes at 8am every morning of COP again this year.
3. Join the Global Day of Climate Action
Save the date – Saturday 14 November.
