Dales Churchyard Wildflower Book Launch + Mosses

ingleton church-600Come to the launch of a book of watercolour paintings and notes on churchyard wildflowers of the Ingleton churchyards on Tuesday May 28th at 6.30pm at St Mary’s Church, Ingleton in the Yorkshire Dales.

Written and illustrated by Doris A Scammel l-Cairns of Ingleton, the book will be on sale in Ingleton for the remainder of the “Ingleton Overground-Underground” Festival (25-31 May). It shows wildflowers of St Mary’s Ingleton and of St Leonard’s Chapel-le-Dale

 

Doris says “Come and raise a glass of wine with us to celebrate our wildflower heritage”

A short walk in the churchyards to look at some of the flowers, and free light refreshments will accompany the launch. It will also be an opportunity to see some of the Art work of local people displayed in the church for the festival.

 

Afterwards, from 7.30pm – 8pm there will be a slide show in the church “Spring Wildflowers of the Ingleton area” by local botanist Dr Judith Allinson, (featuring flowers flowers that you can see now in Ingleton, the Glens, Limestone Pavement and on the Overground Trail Race Route).  (donations to St Mary’s and to the Rainforest Fund)

On the following evening (29 May) Judith will lead a Mosses for Beginners Workshop “The Secret World of Mosses” at the church, 6pm – 8.30pm. (£5-00, to cover coffee and handouts and use of hand-lenses) please book – 01729 822138). This is rare opportunity for people who would like to learn first steps in identifying their garden or churchyard mosses.
