Food and Green Christian

Green Christian has long recognised the central role – both practical and symbolic – of food in the lives of Christians. The Bible makes frequent reference to the sharing of food, and of its growing and our gratitude for it. Green Christian has long promoted the widely recognised principles of sustainable food using the acronym LOAF for food which is Locally produced, Organically grown, Animal friendly and Fairly traded.

In 2023 Green Christian launched its Food Project after discussion and analysis in the light of an academic survey conducted by Professor Tim Cooper on the attitudes and practices of Christians – across denominations – towards various aspects of food.  Some of the findings, on Church-owned land, Lent and Harvest, have already been published and proven influential. Others will follow.

In the Food section of our website you will find ideas and resources on:

  • Refreshments, church meals, Communion
  • Sermons, liturgy, Lent course, magazine articles
  • Leaflets, posters, placemat
  • Our thoughts on rewilding, GM and more
  • Resources for harvest
  • Food related articles

We periodically run workshops and webinars relating to food – you’ll find information on the Events pages, and past events on our YouTube channel. A food e-Newsletter is also available.
