Green Christian at New Wine

The Green Christian and Operation Noah Stall at New Wine 26-30 July and 1-5 August, Maidstone, Kent.

The aim of the stall was to help people understand creation and climate care as a Christian imperative, and then to provide them with resources and support to help them respond to that call.

Operation Noah were on the stall for week A, and Green Christian took it over for week B.

The photo, left, shows Shilpita Mathews, Green Christian patron and Operation Noah board member, and Michael Oliver, Operation Noah board member.

We asked festival-goers to vote for their favourite reason to care for creation by dropping a coffee bean into a bottle. The choices were:

  • God created the heavens and the earth
  • The Earth is the Lord’s
  • The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it
  • Love your neighbour as yourself
  • Well done, good and faithful servant
  • All things have been created through him and for him

This sparked interesting conversations and many people bought Operation Noah’s Tenants of the King Study Guide, took Green Christian leaflets and signed up to both organisations’ newsletters.

In week B, Green Christian was in charge. The photo, right, shows Green Christian members, Jill and Colin Lovell.

The results of the poll were:

Number of coffee beans in jars:

  • Gen 1:1 – 56
  • Gen 2:15 – 92
  • Psalm 24:1 – 80
  • You faithful servant – 32
  • Love your neighbour – 59
  • All things – 69
  • Total – 388

Not all visitors voted – so that’s approx. 400 visitors total to the stall!

And the winner was Genesis 2:15 – God’s actual first commandment!
