Report – Green Christian On the Road in Ludlow

Green Christian visited Ludlow on Sunday 26 May.
Following the morning creation service and a shared lunch, Revd John Daniels from Green Christian led a workshop titled God’s World: a Christian response. John told us more about Green Christian and its campaign Joy in Enough.
A conversational Bible study from Genesis ch.2 and Romans ch.8 asked what it means to be human and what it means to be Christian. Then in three groups we were asked to consider examples of “too much” in our misuse of today’s world, and things we can do to recover “God’s plenty”. Feedback from this group work is summarised below.
Examples of “too much“
- Governments imposing strictures on farmers without consulting.
- People excluded from buying local, organic and ethical goods.
- Poor cannot afford to bulk buy.
- Closure of recycling facilities.
- Water companies paying shareholders instead of investing.
- Privately developed social housing imposing high service charges.
- Spiralling housing rental costs effecting those on fixed incomes.
Things we can do to recover “God’s plenty“
as individuals, churches, communities and governments
- “Live more simply, that others may simply live”.
- Challenge assumption of need for economic growth.
- Create genuinely affordable housing.
- Fair wage for all.
- Pay a reasonable/fair price.
- More cyclical economy.
- Less waste.
- Don’t be tempted by advertising.
- Spread the ‘green message’ conversationally.
- Use votes and voices at the general election.
- Attend local election hustings meeting.
- Speak prophetically.
- Consider our influence as Christians.
- Remember that we are made in the image of God/Christ.
- Work towards this church’s Eco Gold Award.
