What Would Jesus Buy? (Nov 2010)
Everything we buy has an impact on the environment and other people. Living as we do in the developed world, we are amongst the 20% of the world’s population that is consuming over 80% of the earth’s dwindling natural resources. It’s not fair and it’s not sustainable!
Can you imagine taking Jesus shopping with you and asking him for advice on your purchases? Would you shop differently? Would you shop less? Would it make you question the products you buy and challenge the companies who produce them, ask whether your purchase harms the environment or people in developing countries? There are so many things to think about when shopping that a good place to start is to stop!
Buy Nothing Day on Saturday November 27th 2010 is a day where you challenge yourself, your family and friends to switch off from shopping and tune into life. The rules are simple, for 24 hours you will detox from shopping and anyone can take part provided they spend a day without spending! People around the world will make a pact with themselves to take a break from consumption as a personal experiment or public statement and the best thing is – IT’S FREE!!!
