Bee a Climate and Nature Champion!

This is a fun, creative activity for all ages to support the only plan for a just and science-based legal framework to respond to the climate and nature crisis.

We launched this activity at the Greenbelt Festival at the end of August. It’s the perfect activity for all ages at stalls, community events, coffee mornings and in your churches.

Find out what else you can do to campaign for the Climate and Nature Bill here.

Step-by-step guide to BEE a Climate and Nature Champion

Before the day

  1. Decide/arrange a time/event to do the activity
  2. Order the postcards and flyers from us – info@greenchristian.org.uk. Please give us the date you need them by, how many you want and your address. We will also give you our address for you to send the children’s postcards
  3. Buy some inkpads and black felt tip pens (From Hobbycraft or equivalent)
  4. Buy some second class stamps
  5. Make a ‘postbox’ or simply have an envelope to put the cards in
  6. Invite people to come along and BEE a climate and nature champion and call for a new law to protect creation
  7. Decorate a few postcards for people to copy

On the day

  • Invite people to decorate the front of a postcard with thumb-print bees and write a message to the government on the other side.

Adults

  • ask them to add a stamp and
  • ask if they would be willing to pay for the stamp (stamps are 87p and when we did this at Greenbelt nearly everyone gave £1). NB it is now no longer possible to stick them all in an envelope and post to the House of Commons
  • ensure they add name and address and postcode
  • look up the MP name for them
  • post in the post box or put it in the envelope
  • Give people a flyer so they know what more they can do

Children

  • First name and age only with no address
  • Peg up around the stall/room

After the event

  • Make sure you have MPs names and a stamp on all the cards from adults
  • Count them and let us know how many you made
  • Post them
  • Collect up the children’s cards and post them to us at Green Christian (contact us for the address)

I am in Sierra Leone and I want my primary school to be part. We are also working on a campus landscaping activity on the campus.

We can see and experience the effects of global warming and climate change. It is imperative we do all we can so preserve and support the wildlife affected by this and ensure the food chain is viable. This includes all the insect life and our essential pollinators. Asking people to do what then can is not enough - strict legislation is needed to enforce change - a change for the better.
