Community Woodland on Film
A new short film about Tregoniggie Woodland in Cornwall features Green Christian member Euan McPhee.
Since 2013 the Friends of Tregoniggie Woodland have worked to maintain and improve this beautiful public space which is brilliantly imagined and designed.
The seven hectare woodland was formerly farmland, largely permanent pasture bounded by traditional Cornish hedging. The sloping nature of the land and the poorly drained parts adjacent to Bickland Stream limited the productivity of the land. Subsequently housing and an industrial estate were built on either side of the stream.
The ribbon of former farmland lying between these developments was adopted as public open space in 1960s and a programme of landscaping undertaken by Falmouth Parks Department under the direction of Don Hoyle. This included the planting of many native and exotic trees, and areas of open meadow for amenity and recreational purposes. The area known as the Nursery was formerly used for the propagation of trees for planting in open spaces around Falmouth. This area now serves as a focus for community events and is the site of the recently formed pond.
The woodland has very high conservation and amenity value and is well used by local residents, including the elderly, a nearby children’s nursery, young families and dog walkers.
In June 2026 a lovely lady named Alana, who runs a CIC tasked with creating short videos of community groups in Cornwall, chose the Friends of Tregoniggie Woodland for her first film.
