We have No Faith in Fossil Fuels!

On Ash Wednesday, 5 March 2025, Green Christian and many other groups gathered in prayer, reflection and song at St John’s Waterloo before holding vigil outside the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, praying and calling for an end to new oil and gas.

Here is the Order of Service.

The government is in the process of consulting the public on whether to end new drilling for oil and gas. Operation Noah, Christian Climate Action, Christian Aid, Laudato Si Movement, the Student Christian Movement, Tearfund, Just Love, Eco-Congregation Scotland and Green Christian wanted to call on our government to listen to science and justice and to stop the Rosebank oilfield and end fossil fuels in the UK.

After the service people made their way over to the 24 hour vigil outside the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

DESNZ employees smiled as they were greeted by members of the Climate Choir Movement singing ‘Stop Rosebank’ to the tune of the Halleluiah Chorus as they left work at 5.30pm.

There was also an online Prayer Room for people to join in the 24 hour prayer vigil from the comfort of their own homes.

Prayer resources for personal and church use

  • Order of Service
  • Also a folder with all you need to hold a vigil outside your MP’s office or in your town centre to pray for and witness to your need for our country to do the right thing on new oil and gas.

Ask your MP or MSP to Stop Rosebank MP

Our service and vigil took place during Stop Rosebank’s No New Oil & Gas MP & MSP Action Week.

However, there is still time to contact your MP. Stop Rosebank has put together all the information you need to arrange to meet with your MP.

With enough public pressure, we could see the UK take the decisive leap of moving away from fossil fuels, inspiring global momentum towards a safe future.

And here’s just one more things to do now – Sign and share this petition – Have your say: No new drilling
